FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
1. How can I minimize wrinkles and ironing time?
Cotton wrinkles easier and faster than polyester or microfiber based fabrics.
Avoid allowing fabric to sit too long in the washer or wet. The additional water weight accelerates creates creases much faster in the fabric.
2. Which fabrics last longer?
Microfiber and polyester based fabrics hold color for longer and can be washed more often. (Con: These fabrics are hotter but blends vary depending on cotton, woool or fiber content)
3. What fabrics are best for the hot weather?
Cottons and linens work best in hot weathers.
(Con: Color fades faster and wrinkles faster if cotton content is high)
4. How can I avoid damages in the washing machine?
Wash lighter garments and heavier garments separately. More delicate pieces should be placed in a mesh bag to avoid snags and tears.
5. Why did my outfit shrink or lose shape after washing?
Some fabrics (mostly cottons or natural fibers like wool or flax) shrink when they are first washed and should be prewashed before not only sewing, but also before cutting the definitive pattern before sewing. This shrinkage varies and some fabrics come pre-shrunk, but it is always better to be safe. :)
6. How can I find a seamstress in my town?
We have a free seamstress directory available. We are still adding to it; all seamstress/tailor/upholsters are welcome to register for customer referrals.
7. Do you sell threads or elastic?
Yes, but wholesale only. For smaller quantities, our nextdoor neighbor Trimz has a large range of sewing accesories sold retail.
8. What kind of cloth can be composted?
Go green with cotton or hemp fibers.
9. What steps should be taken before cutting to sew?
-Wash your fabric
-Take note of which side is inside or outside.
-Fold fabric with the right sides facing each other
-Pin edges
-Sew at least 1/4" from the fabric's edge or more based on your desired seam allowance.
